The Interesting Watches of 2015

SIHH Watch Show Geneva - a place were all watches brands battle yearly for the title of the coolest, most interesting and most unusual timepiecesnd

In 2015 the SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie) was the most prestigious watch show in the world and took place in (where else?) Geneva. The first major watch show of that year got the ball rolling in terms of building up hype and interest around the coolest, most unusual, and most interesting watches for both men and women.

So, let us list the ten best watches for 2015!

1. Cartier Ballon Bleu Serti Vibrant

Cartier did what they do best and swamped their 2015 with an enormous amount of diamonds. There were 123 stones on that year’s version of the cool Ballon Bleu watch and it certainly made an interesting statement.

The unusual watch borrowed from an obscure setting style called en Tremblant. This is where diamonds are mounted to the watch via springs. The result was the marvelous sparkle that was visible when holding the cool watch up to the light.

2. Audemars Piquet Royal Oak 41mm 15400 Two-Tone

This cool watch was a slightly larger version of 2012’s unusual version and features a two-tone steel finish as well as a sprinkling of 18 karat gold. This interesting edition was also the first Audemars watch ever to feature both a two-tone steel and a rose gold finish.

3. Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre Spherotourbillion Moon

A smart, subtle yet cool men’s watch – this interesting watch featured an unusual ‘moon phase’ display which was 30 times more accurate than its competitors at the time. Amazingly, this unusual men’s watch only produced an error every 3,877 years! Imagine that!

The industry standard was every 122 years and that’s why this cool watch was Jaegers flagship watch for the season.

4. Vacheron Constantin Harmony Ultra-Thin Grande Complication Chronograph Caliber 3500

Vacheron Constantin only released these really cool mens’ watches as part of a limited run so there were only ten available. These interesting and unusual watches also came at a premium price of £235,000 which made it one of the most expensive watches on show in 2015.

However, if you are looking for totally sleek, cool and intersting watches, then look no further. The Caliber 3500 featured a relatively succinct sense of style in comparison to its other premium rivals. Only the keenest eyes could notice this kind of craftsmanship.

5. Montblanc Villeret Tourbillon Cylindrique Geospheres Vasco de Gama

No, you’re wrong. This wasn’t a special association with the legendary Brazilian football team. This was the crème de la crème, the coolest French watch-making at its best. These interesting and unusual watches for men had a really cool feature that showed the time in any part of the world at any time via the use of two globes. These half-globes are part of the watch-face.

However, this level of cool and craftsmanship does come with a price and because of Montblanc’s strong belief that every watch should be hand-crafted there was a small amount of availability.

7. Greubel Forsey Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision

It seems to be a growing trend that cool mens watches nowadays must feature larger faces and the 2015 Greubel was no different. The 36mm movement was particularly massive, especially when you consider that it was squeezed into a 43.5mm case.

These sleek yet very interesting watches may not be for everyone but the cool Tourbillon 24 secondes have definitely got influencers talking.

8. Cartier Cle de Cartier

Cartier has long been the gold standard in terms of high-end watches and jewellery and the 2015 edition followed that legacy.

9. Panerai Radiomir 47mm 3 Days Firenze Acciaio

Another limited edition interesting watch, this particular piece is even harder to get hold of nowadays. These really cool watches were only available for natives of the Italian city of Florence, quite an unusual marketing strategy. The watch was essentially just a slight improvement on the previous model, the seminal Radiomir.

The main difference was that the mechanism has been changed to a more reliable Panerai P.3000.
