Vacheron Constantin Overseas 4500V/110A-B128 – A Collateral Loan Case Study Example

A Vacheron Constantin Overseas supplied with its steel bracelet, additional straps, and corresponding clasp is an interesting proposition for any luxury pawnbroker. The 4500V/110A-B128 originally comes with a steel bracelet, and blue alligator and blue rubber straps that come with a separate folding clasp. Establishing what accompanies the watch is therefore a big part of its valuation because it matters to collectors.

This hypothetical case study explains how the precise reference, finishing, interchangeable attachments, movement, service history and current market evidence would shape an assessment when an owner considers using a Vacheron Constantin Overseas as collateral for a loan.

Scenario: An education payment before a scheduled investment withdrawal

In this illustrative scenario, a consultant needs £12,000 to meet an overseas postgraduate tuition-payment deadline for their daughter. Funds from a scheduled investment withdrawal are expected in six weeks, but the university requires payment sooner.

The owner considers a two-month loan against an Overseas rather than a permanent sale. The investment withdrawal forms the intended repayment route. Of course, its timing and net proceeds would need to be responsibility checked against the proposed borrowing costs.

For this example, the owner describes a blue-dial steel Overseas purchased in 2020. They retain the box, warranty documentation, spare bracelet links, blue rubber strap, separate strap clasp and a service invoice. The original alligator strap is missing.

We would request photographs of the dial, bezel, case, caseback, bracelet, clasps, strap fittings and documents. These could support an initial indication, but authentication, condition and a final lending figure would require physical assessment at our Mayfair office.

Identifying the precise Overseas reference

The assumed watch is an Overseas Self-Winding reference 4500V/110A-B128. The customer tells us it is the 41 mm stainless-steel model with a blue dial, central seconds, date at 3 o’clock and automatic calibre 5100. It belongs to the Overseas generation introduced in 2016.

Those details are part of the reason why each Overseas must be appraised individually. An earlier-generation watch, chronograph, dual-time model or precious-metal execution would not automatically provide an appropriate benchmark. The later blue-dial steel 4520V/210A-B128 is also a separate reference, with a different secondary market price.

Our specialist would consider the physical watch and its identifying details alongside the warranty and service records. A matching model description or document would be a starting point, and could provide the customer with a rough idea of what level of collateral is possible.

Why the bracelet and interchangeable fittings matter

The Overseas combines a six-sided, Maltese-cross-inspired bezel with a bracelet featuring satin-brushed surfaces, polished angles and half-Maltese-cross-shaped links. The condition of those surfaces would form part of the condition assessment because polishing can soften the edge or even slightly alter its finish.

Our specialist would examine the bracelet links, articulation, clasp, comfort adjustment and available length. Spare links would be recorded alongside any damage or excessive wear.

The 4500V also uses a tool-free interchangeable attachment system. Its additional leather and rubber straps share a compatible folding clasp, while the steel bracelet has its own clasp. We would therefore check the attachment fittings, secure engagement, rubber condition and separate strap clasp.

In this scenario, the missing alligator strap is a completeness issue. It is not equivalent to a missing steel bracelet. However, it would prevent us from describing the watch as retaining its entire original bracelet-and-strap package, which may limit its buyer pool.

Movement, documents and service history

Calibre 5100 has twin barrels, approximately 60 hours of power reserve and a 22K gold rotor decorated with a wind rose. The sapphire caseback permits a view of the movement, and the model carries the Hallmark of Geneva.

Neither a display back nor the watch’s original certification is enough to establish the watch’s mechanical condition. As such, our specialist would review the visible movement, winding and setting action, date operation and apparent running condition carefully.

The service invoice would also be examined for the work it records. Routine maintenance, replacement components and case or bracelet refinishing would be distinguished rather than treated as equally beneficial.

The supplied warranty documentation and purchase history would also be checked against the watch. These materials can support the assessment, but they do not replace physical authentication or establish that every component is original.

Researching comparable Overseas prices

Our research would focus on blue-dial steel 4500V/110A-B128 watches with comparable condition, documentation and bracelet-and-strap completeness. Different references, metals, complications and dial colours would be considered separately.

Recent auction results of £19,816, £20,790 and £22,987 at Grailzee, and £24,629 at Phillips would form a valuation basis. Earlier results include £15,665 at Watch Collecting in April 2025 and £45,721 at NY Elizabeth in June 2022, showing why sale date and individual lot details matter. Each result’s condition, accessories, buyer’s premium and currency-conversion basis would need checking before direct comparison.

For this scenario, £20,000–£24,000 could remain an illustrative secondary-market working range, not a confirmed valuation. The missing alligator strap, bracelet and attachment-system condition, service findings and closely matched completed sales would need to support the assessment.

Specialist assessment in Mayfair

The owner brings the Overseas, spare links, rubber strap, separate strap clasp, box and available records to our Mayfair premises.

Using appropriate handling equipment and magnification, our specialist would examine the case, bezel, dial, hands, crystal, crown, bracelet, clasps and visible movement. The interchangeable components would be reviewed individually, with attention to their fit, condition and secure operation.

The appraisal would bring together the watch’s reference and component consistency, preservation of its finishing, mechanical findings, service history and set completeness. Those findings would then determine which market examples are genuinely comparable.

Illustrative collateral-loan assessment

If inspection and suitable comparables support a secondary-market assessment of £20,000–£24,000, an illustrative lending proportion of 60% would produce a potential advance of £12,000–£14,400.

The percentage is a scenario assumption, not a confirmed offer or fixed lending policy. The valuation range is likewise conditional.

The owner’s £12,000 tuition requirement sits at the bottom of that illustrated advance range. A lower valuation could therefore leave a funding shortfall. Attachment damage, unresolved servicing needs, replacement components or weaker comparable evidence could reduce the amount available.

The missing alligator strap would already form part of the appraisal assumptions, rather than being overlooked when comparing the watch with more complete examples.

Agreement, secure storage and redemption

If a suitable offer is available and the owner wishes to proceed, they would provide proof of address and a photo ID. We would then supply them with an FCA-regulated contract that would explain the loan terms, interest rate, and more, in simple terms.

The intended two-month period allows some time beyond the expected six-week investment withdrawal. It does not guarantee that the funds arrive on schedule, so the owner would need to consider repayment if the proceeds are delayed.

If an agreement is completed, the Overseas and agreed accompanying components would be held as security in secure storage. Repayment in accordance with the terms would allow the owner to redeem and collect them.

Could your Vacheron Constantin support a specialist assessment?

An Overseas appraisal requires both expertise and research. The precise reference, bezel and bracelet finishing, interchangeable fittings, supplied clasps, movement condition, service history and completeness all help establish the relevant market comparisons.

Owners can contact New Bond Street Pawnbrokers for an initial indication and arrange a specialist assessment at 5 Blenheim Street, Mayfair.

Any loan is subject to assessment, acceptance and the terms of the agreement. An initial indication or valuation does not guarantee that a loan will be offered.
